Having really enlarged pores I LOVE primers. But I often hear hear a question: “What is a primer and what does it do?”

Well, most primers have silky, silicone or water-based formula that leaves all skin types feeling incredibly soft and smooth. A primer fills in pores and superficial lines and helps facilitate makeup application. In other word primers blur any imperfections making your skin looking photoshopped (to some extent) and help your makeup last longer. On top of it, you might want to use much less less foundation or none at all as the skin already looks evened out. Primers are applied as the last step in skincare regimen (after moisturizers or sunscreen and before foundation).

The rule of thumb with choosing the best primer is that silicone-based primers work best with silicone-based foundations and water-based primers are ideal for water-based foundations. So here are my picks of the best blurring and pore-miniming primers that give an amazing result.

#1. Peter Thomas Roth Pore Putty

Beautiful lightweight and long-lasting treatment that instantly blurs and fills the look of pores, fine lines, and deep wrinkles—making them nearly invisible for a flawless matte finish. I think it works best for oily, combination and normal types of skin as it does help keep excess shine. It could be applied before makeup or dabbed on top of it for a touch-up.

#2. Hourglass Cosmetics Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15

One of my most loved primers! Ever. Why? Because of its unique fluid-like texture which smooths out my fine lines, diminishes large pores and improves the look and longevity of my foundation or CC cream. Pretty often I wear it on it’s own applied over my sunscreen. It might look slightly white when applying but in a minute a magic happens and it literally dissolves on my skin and creates a second surface that fees so smooth and silky.

#3. Hylamide Ha Blur

I would say it works best for those with combo, normal and dry skin. It can be as well used for oily skin for that blur effect but do not expect it to mattify your skin as the main purpose of this primer is to make your skin looking plump, hydrated and smooth like a baby skin.

#4. Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer

It’s formulated to reduce the appearance of large pores, fine lines, and wrinkles and it does do it all. A lightweight texture glides on easily instantly smoothing the skin and giving flawless and soft-focus finish. It’s definitely worth the splurge and I will keep repurchasing. Great for all skin types.

#5. Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Pore Minimizing

Amazing oil-free, mattifying primer that instantly reduces the look of flaws and pores, and it does controls sebum so, girls with oily skin, it’s for us! It has an interesting tinted  fragrance-free formula that sets quickly to a powder-like finish. The color barely shows on the skin. It could also be applied over  foundation for extra mattifying effect. If you do it this way, then just gently dub, do not rub.

#6. Bobbi Brown Instant Confidence Stick

Great pore-filling and wrinkle-smoothing stick which is a must in cosmetic pouch so that I can use it on the go for touch-ups. You can apply it under or over makeup, targeting wrinkles, fine lines and large pores. Additionally, there are beneficial skin-softening ingredients, as well as a ceramide and peptide blend.

#7. Innisfree No Sebum Blur Primer

Nice budget-friendly Korean primer instantly make skin looking supple and blurs out pores. It also helps to keep sebum at bay so it’s a good choice for those struggling from excessive oiliness of the skin.

#8. Hylamide Pore Delete

Another cool primer by Hylamide. Fragrance-free low-viscosity liquid formula offer instant visible blurring of pores, shine and fine lines for a perfect-looking skin surface right away. Unlike their Ha Blur, it would work best for very oily skin.

#9. The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer

Very popular on Youtube! No wonder why:) It evens out skin texture, blurs pores and fine lines, help makeup last longer and this all for just under 5$ .  Best for oily, combination and normal types of skin as it gives rather matte finish.

#3. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer

This is my most favorite primer for an evening makeup as it’s pretty  illuminating. The texture is gorgeous – so silky! Any imperfections are blurred out and and skin looks radiant.  In a day time I wear this alone instead of foundation. My face looks amazing with it and it gives me just enough luminosity and not a glittery mess.
