I have uber oily skin yet even skin like this needs a moisturizer to keep skin hydrated and balanced. It’s especially important if you use acne treatments like retinoids, creams and gels with benzoyl peroxide, alcohol and salicylic acid which might make your skin compromised and dehydrated. What does proper moisturizer do? It basically locks hydration in your skin (which comes with toners, essences and serums), prevents loss of moisture and maintain healthy skin barrier function.

So what we are looking for in a moisturizer for oily skin? We want it to have occlusive ingredients to seal hydration but it must be lightweight and not overly rich, so that it does not clog pores and don’t make us break out. We might want it to have skin reparative and soothing ingredients like Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Madecassoside, Ceramides and Panthenol if you use treatments for pimples. What we do not want in a moisturizer? Irritants such as denat alcohol, fragrance and essential oils (preferably). Ok, here’s my picks of the best moisturizers for Oily Blemish-Prone Skin.

#1. Avène Clean-AC Hydrating Cream

Great hydrating cream that restores the skin barrier that has been compromised from harsh acne treatments. Non-oily, comforting formula soothes and moisturises the skin effectively reducing redness that most of us with acne-prone skin have.

#2. Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion

Very nice Korean moisturiser that hydrates, protects and comforts the skin with an oil-free, lightweight formula. Contains 70% Birch Sap instead of water as a base and ultra-moisturizing ingredients to help maintain water deeply on and under the skin.

#3. CeraVe Moisturizing Facial Lotion PM

I would say that it’s one of the best moisturizers on the market. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture and niacinamide to help calm skin. It helps restore the protective skin barrier and prevents hydration-loss. It is suggested for nighttime use because it does not have SPF but it’s great for daytime as well if you apply your favorite sunscreen afterwards. It’s also stated that the lotion is ideal for normal and oily skin but the texture of it is so lightweight that makes it an amazing moisturizer for oily skin and it does not contain any ingredients that could clog pores.

#4. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Fluide Oil-Free Facial Moisturizer

If your skin is not only oily but also uber sensitive, then this a go to moisturizer for you (as well all the other products for Toleriane line) as it’s paraben-free, silicone-free, petrolatum-free, PEG-free and only contains basic necessary ingredients. It’s not greasy, goes on smoothly and quickly absorbs.

#5. Etude House SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream

With minimal ingredient list which includes beneficial skin repairing ingredients such as Madecassoside and Panthenol. It soothes, protects skin barrier and draws hydration to your skin.

#6. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) are naturally present in the skin and they are elements that keep the outer layer of the skin protected and well-hydrated so this cream is especially great for those with compromised skin. It has a very light creamy texture that takes about a minute to be fully absorbed by the skin.

#7. Paula’s Choice RESIST Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator Moisturizer

It’s a gel moisturizer that provides essential hydration, helps minimize the appearance of pores, and provides antioxidants to help defend your skin. It absorbs quickly leaving no sticky film on the skin.

#8. Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel

Another great hydrating gel that can be used alone or with other products to obtain more hydration. I see best results when I use it over my Vitamin C serum and sometimes I also apply more occlusive moisturizer on top of it to really seal the moisture in my skin.

#9. Eau Thermale Avène Triacnéal Day Mattifying Lotion

Great option for those who look for mattifying yet non-drying lotion. It’s a lightweight  moisturizer that helps minimize excess oil while ensuring proper hydration all day long. The matte finish allows for an ideal make-up base.

#10. Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream

The last but surely not the least is Ceramidin by Korean brand Dr. Jart. I would call it a rescue cream for the days when my skin feels dehydrated. It moisturizes and plumps the skin without feeling heavy or sticky. It is a must have if you use too much of acne treatments (like products with benzoyl peroxide which does get rid of pimples but lease skin dry and flaky). Got a sunburn? Grab Ceramidin. Cold winter weather makes your skin look like a desert?  This moisturizer will keep your skin protected and nourished through fall and winter!
